Reformers Get Stuck In and Make a Difference in Peterborough
On Saturday, 6th June, at Unit 3 in the Pyramid Shopping Centre, Bretton, newly elected Reform UK councillor John Bolton, representing the Bretton Ward, held his first local surgery. The unit, located right next door to the Parish Council office, offered a familiar and accessible place for residents to drop in and speak with their councillor.
John was joined by his assitant Reza Benraven, who supported him throughout the morning. A welcoming table with tea, coffee, and slices of cake helped create a relaxed atmosphere as residents arrived to talk about the issues affecting their daily lives.

All too often, we see local officials on social media celebrating events arranged by others, but what many residents really want is to see their councillors rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck in.
So what have John and Reza been doing?
John explained:
“A resident contacted me a few weeks ago saying she was struggling to access her back gate via the public footpath because of overgrown bushes, shrubs, stinging nettles, and more. Even though I escalated her complaint to the council, they still hadn’t been out to deal with it due to staff shortages. It was becoming a safety issue, and she couldn’t enter her back garden via this route at all.
Reza and I decided it couldn’t be left any longer, so we went and cleared it ourselves. If any other residents are unable to get to their back garden via the rear access because of overgrown hedgerow, please comment on my REFORM page or send me a private message, and I will issue a report to the council.”

This hands‑on approach reflects what many residents say they want to see more of: councillors who listen, act, and step in when needed — especially when delays or shortages mean people are left struggling with everyday problems.
